Indian Railways is planning to build a new coach maintenance depot at Alandi station, near Pune. This project will cost around ₹90 crore and will help in fixing and maintaining railway coaches more efficiently. The new depot will be able to service about 100 coaches every day, including modern trains like the Vande Bharat Express.
The new facility will have three long pit lines, each 600 meters long, along with two stabling lines and a sick line for coaches that need extra care. This setup will make it easier to do regular check-ups, repairs, and more complicated work on the coaches. By having a special place for these tasks, Indian Railways hopes to make everything run smoother and faster.
Currently, the Ghorpadi Coaching Maintenance Complex is handling a lot of work, with around 300 coaches coming in every day. The new depot in Alandi will help share this load and make managing the trains easier. This is a good step not just for fixing coaches but also for possibly starting new train routes in the future.
Although the project still needs final approval and a start date, it shows that Indian Railways is serious about improving services. As more people are using trains in Pune, this new coach depot will be important for keeping trains safe, reliable, and comfortable for everyone.
In short, the Alandi coaching depot will help make train travel better for the people in Pune and surrounding areas for many years to come.
