At MJM Hospital in Pune, an unusual case showed how stomach problems can sometimes be linked to nerve issues. A 45-year-old woman from Ahilyanagar came to the hospital on January 23, 2025, because she was vomiting a lot for three days. Doctors first thought she'd a common stomach problem and gave her usual treatments.
However, things changed when the woman started to feel weak in her legs and became sleepy. This made the doctors think there might be something more serious going on. A neurologist visited and suggested that the woman might've Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), which affects the nerves. Tests showed that her nerves were damaged, and she needed special treatment called intravenous immunoglobulin therapy right away.
Things got more complicated when doctors found she also had serious stomach issues. During surgery, they discovered her duodenum, a part of the intestine, was very swollen because GBS was making it hard for her stomach to work properly.
To help her, the doctors performed a surgery called gastrojejunostomy to fix the blockage.
Thanks to the teamwork of different doctors, the woman started to get better. After the surgery and continued treatment for her nerves, she improved a lot in both her stomach and nerve problems. By February 26, 2025, she was well enough to go home.
This case is special because it shows how important it's for doctors to think about different problems when someone has unusual symptoms. It reminds everyone that nerve issues can sometimes show up as stomach problems, and doctors need to work together to help patients.
