Residents of Alandi, a town near Pune, are upset because they haven’t had enough drinking water for six days. They’re planning to protest at the municipal council office because the town needs about 9 million litres of water every day but is short by 1.5 to 2 million litres.
The municipal council has admitted that there are problems with how water is given to people. Many families only get water once every three to four days. Because of this, they’ve to buy water in big 20-litre cans, which cost Rs20 each. This extra cost makes it harder for families to manage their money.
The issue isn’t just about this one-time water cut. People in Alandi often face water shortages throughout the year. The officials say that the recent water cut is due to repair work, but this hasn’t calmed the worries of the residents about the town’s water problems.
Local activists say that the water system isn’t good enough for the growing number of people living in Alandi. They want the municipal council to take responsibility and make real improvements. Many residents agree and feel that their water needs have been ignored for too long.
To respond to the complaints, the municipal council has promised to make changes. They plan to build two new water tanks that can hold 10 lakh litres each. They also want to find and remove illegal water connections that take away water from people who pay for it.
Even though the officials have made promises, residents still want to protest. They’re frustrated with the poor water service and want quick action to solve their problems. If things don’t get better, they’re ready to protest loudly at the municipal council office until their water needs are met.
