Watchman and Accomplice Charged With Large Theft in Pune

Police in Pune have caught a watchman and his friend for stealing money and valuable items worth ₹31.91 lakh from a house in the Market Yard area. This is part of a bigger problem in Pune, where thefts are increasing. In 2022, there were 1,236 theft cases reported in the city, which shows that many people are worried about their safety.

The watchman and his friend entered the house through the balcony while the family wasn’t home. This incident highlights how some homes may not have good security measures in place. Pune is facing an average of three thefts every day, with the number of cases rising from 720 in 2020 to 925 in 2021. Some areas, like Chatushringi and Hadapsar, have more problems with theft, so the police are working hard to improve safety.

In 2022, the total value of stolen items in Pune was around ₹14.32 crores, but only ₹4.20 crores were recovered. This shows how difficult it can be for the police to find stolen things and return them to their owners.

To help reduce thefts, Pune police are now using night patrol teams and are talking with community leaders. They’re also advising people to install CCTV cameras and check the backgrounds of anyone they hire to work in their homes.

The involvement of watchmen in thefts has made many residents rethink how they hire these workers. It’s important to have strict checks and audits to keep homes safe.

These thefts not only cause financial loss but also hurt trust in the community. The police are focused on solving current cases and finding ways to stop thefts in the future. They’re also training security staff and reaching out to the community to help everyone feel safer at home.
