Pune Airport to Fast-Track Runway Expansion

Pune Airport is getting bigger! They’re planning to make the runway longer by adding 1,000 meters to the current 2,535-meter runway. This means the airport can now handle bigger airplanes, called Code E planes, which have large wings. To do this, they need to buy 225 to 250 acres of land on both sides of the runway, and it will cost about ₹160 crore.

The state government is helping a lot with the money for this project. They’ll pay for 60% of the land needed. The Pune Municipal Corporation will give 20%, and two other local bodies, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, will each give 10%. The Airport Authority of India will ensure everything runs smoothly, especially in areas near the Air Force.

This expansion will allow more planes to park at the airport because they’re also making the apron area bigger, from 540 meters to 940 meters. They’ll also move some hangars and important lights to help planes land safely, even when the weather is bad.

With these changes, Pune Airport will be able to welcome larger planes and more passengers. This will help the city connect with other countries and support the local economy by bringing in more visitors and business.

Many different government groups are working together on this project. They’re making sure everything is safe and follows international rules for flying. This expansion won’t just improve the runway but also the systems that help planes navigate better.
