PMRDA Cracks Down on Illegal Land Plots in Pune

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has started a big action against illegal land plotting in nine areas. In just nine days, they removed 4,250 illegal buildings and almost 2,000 structures that weren’t allowed. They cleared more than two lakh square meters of land that was taken over without permission.

This campaign is focused on different types of illegal buildings, like houses, shops, and walls that don’t follow the city planning rules. PMRDA looks after nine areas where many illegal developments have happened. They’re taking strict steps to make sure everyone follows the rules about land use.

On April 8, 2025, PMRDA officials did a big operation in Charholi Khurd, Taluka Khed, where some builders were making illegal plots. They’re using drones to find these illegal buildings, especially on empty government land, which makes it easier for them to take action.

PMRDA has clear rules that say all buildings need permission before they can be built. Local village councils aren’t allowed to give building permits in PMRDA areas. The authority has sent many stop-work notices and filed complaints against those who break the rules.

The PMRDA works with local governments and police to make their efforts stronger. They’re asking people with illegal buildings to take them down voluntarily while they also have regular plans to remove buildings that don’t follow the rules.

After a pause because of court orders, PMRDA has started working again with more energy. They’re also telling people to check property papers carefully before buying to avoid scams.

These efforts are helping to control city growth and make sure everything is organized in the Pune Metropolitan Region.
