A man from Kondhwa, Pune, got tricked by a scam and lost ₹2.5 lakh while trying to get his son admitted to MIT College in Loni Kalbhor for an MBA. This happened between August 8 and August 20, 2024. The case shows how many people are falling for scams related to college admissions in Pune.
The person who tricked him is 39-year-old Yasin Ismail Shaikh. He pretended to be someone important who could help with the college admission. Shaikh had many talks with the victim and made him believe that he could get a guaranteed seat for his son in the college. Because of this, the victim gave him a lot of money.
Later, the victim found out that Shaikh used the money for himself and didn’t help with the admission at all. When the victim checked with MIT College, he learned that there was no admission arranged for his son.
Realizing he was cheated, the victim reported the matter to the Lashkar Police. The police have started a case against Shaikh and are investigating to collect evidence about the money and the talks between them.
This situation warns others about the growing scams in Pune. The police suggest that people should check and confirm everything before sending money for college admissions. They’re also asking anyone who’s faced similar scams to come forward and share their experiences.
The police are working hard to trace the money and find others who might’ve helped Shaikh in this scam. They want to make sure that such cheating doesn’t happen again.
