Pune Garbage Fire Disrupts Power for 1.15 Lakh Consumers

In the early morning of April 16, 2025, a big garbage fire near Pune’s GREF Center on Alandi-Kalas Road caused serious problems for the city’s power supply. The fire damaged eight important power lines, which led to electricity outages for around 1.15 lakh people in different areas.

The fire started around 2:30 AM, and local firefighters quickly rushed to the scene. They worked hard and managed to put out the fire by 3 AM. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) took quick action by cutting off power in some places to keep everyone safe. They also sent six teams to help fix the damaged power lines.

Many areas were affected by the power cuts, especially Vishrantwadi and Kalas, where about 10,000 people lost electricity. Other nearby areas like Dhanori and Lohgaon also faced power problems, and residents had to deal with no electricity during the early hours.

MSEDCL began fixing the damaged power lines at 5 AM. Their teams worked carefully to restore power while making sure everyone was safe. They focused on important places first so that people could get their electricity back as soon as possible.

By 12:30 PM, all the power was restored to the 1.15 lakh affected customers. It took around ten hours from the fire starting to getting everyone’s power back. This quick response showed how well MSEDCL and the emergency teams worked together.

This incident reminds us how important it’s to manage waste properly, especially near places that provide electricity. It also shows that Pune’s emergency services are ready to handle such problems, but we need to take more steps to keep our power systems safe from fires like this in the future.
