Save Pune’s Hills: Over 9,000 Citizens Sign Petition Against Hill Construction

More than 9,000 people in Pune have signed a petition to save the city’s hills from construction work. The Green Hills Campaign started this movement to protect these important natural areas that help keep the city healthy and clean.

Two people, Sushma Date and Ameya Jagtap, are leading this fight to save the hills. They went to places like Vetal Tekdi and Aapla Maruti to collect signatures from people who want to protect these hills from builders.

The city officials have made a special team of 6 people, led by Ramanath Jha, who used to be Pune’s Municipal Commissioner. This team will look at the rules about building on hills and will give their report by May 8.

The people running the campaign have five main demands. They want to keep the hills as protected areas called Biodiversity Parks (BDP), stop any building work, give fair money to land owners, prevent illegal buildings, and make sure the public has a say in decisions about the hills.

Pune’s hills are very important for the city. They help collect rainwater, keep the air clean, and give homes to many plants and animals. The campaign says no one should be allowed to build anything on these hills to keep them safe.

The growing support from Pune’s people shows that more and more citizens understand why these hills are important. They want to make sure these natural treasures are saved for their children and grandchildren to enjoy in the future.

While the hills remain threatened, Pune sports enthusiasts continue to use these natural spaces for hiking and outdoor activities.
