Ola, Uber, Rapido in Pune to Follow Metered Fare From May 1

Cab services in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Baramati will start using meters from May 1. The new system will charge ₹37 for the first 1.5 kilometers and ₹25 for each kilometer after that. This change will make taxi fares clear and stop random price increases during busy times.

The new rates are higher than before. A 10-kilometer ride will now cost about ₹249.50, while earlier it was ₹175. These prices are similar to what auto-rickshaws charge, making it easier for people to choose between taxis and autos.

To help people calculate fares easily, the Indian Gig Workers Front (IGWF) is making a website called www.onlymeter.in. All taxis will have QR codes that people can scan to check the correct fare for their journey.

This new system will stop fights between drivers and passengers about fares. It will help both customers and drivers by making prices fair and clear. All taxi companies like Ola, Uber, and Rapido will follow these rules.

The IGWF, which speaks for many taxi drivers in these cities, is happy with this change. They think it will make things better for drivers who work with taxi apps. The group is helping to make and run the website for fare calculation.

This new meter system is a big change in how taxis work in these cities. It will make sure everyone pays the same fair price and gets good service. This could be an example for other cities in India to follow.

The implementation of Pune’s transportation reforms marks a significant shift in the city’s evolving mobility landscape.
