Ola, Uber, and Rapido will start using government-set prices in Pune from May 1. The new rules will affect about 45,000 taxis in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Baramati areas. The basic fare will be Rs 37 for first 1.5 kilometers, and then Rs 25 for each extra kilometer. For a 10-kilometer ride, people will have to pay Rs 249.50.

This is a big change from the old system where prices kept changing. For example, earlier a 10-kilometer UberGo ride from Ghole Road to Salunke Vihar Road would cost around Rs 219 in the evening. Now, prices will be the same all the time and won’t change during busy hours.

To help passengers check the right fare, the government has made a website called www.onlymeter.in. Every taxi will have a special QR code that passengers can scan to check the correct fare. This will help solve any arguments about prices between drivers and passengers.

The new system will start from May 1, giving everyone time to learn about the changes. The government will tell all drivers and passengers about the new prices through different ways like newspapers and social media.

These fixed prices might make some people feel the rides are costly, but it will stop the problem of sudden high prices during busy times. This will make things fair for both drivers and passengers.

The new rules will make all taxi companies charge the same prices. This will help create better service for everyone and make sure drivers get fair payment for their work. The government will keep checking if everything is working properly.

The initiative is part of Pune’s broader effort to modernize its transportation landscape with standardized fares across ride-hailing services.
