A 24-year-old autorickshaw driver was badly beaten up by four other drivers at Gadital autorickshaw stand in Hadapsar on Saturday evening around 8:00 PM. The attackers used sharp weapons and their fists to hurt the young driver.
The fight started because the victim tried to pick up a passenger without following the line system at the stand. This made other drivers very angry, as everyone is supposed to wait for their turn to get passengers.
The injured driver got many wounds on his head, ear, and back. He was quickly taken to Sassoon Hospital for treatment. After getting better, he went to the police station and filed a case against the four drivers who beat him up.
The police have started looking for the four drivers who ran away after the attack. They’re also writing to the RTO office to check if the autorickshaw stand is following all rules and if it has proper permissions to operate near the PMPML bus stop.
This fight shows how auto drivers often get into arguments over picking up passengers. Since there are no proper rules about who should pick up passengers first, such fights keep happening at auto stands.
The police and transport officials are now thinking of making new rules to stop such fights. They want to set up proper lines for autos, put up cameras at busy stands, and make sure everyone follows the rules. This will help keep both drivers and passengers safe.
The incident has raised concerns about safety at Pune’s autorickshaw stands where similar disputes have become increasingly common.
