Rohit Pawar, who’s a member of Maharashtra’s law-making body, has shared a scary video of the “Koyta Gang” on his social media. This gang is causing trouble in many parts of Maharashtra, and Pawar wants the police and leaders to take quick action to stop them.
The video, which got more than 50,000 views in just one day, shows gang members carrying dangerous weapons and scaring people in Pune city and nearby areas. Pawar says that both police and local leaders must work together to catch these criminals and make the streets safe again.
The Koyta Gang has been very active this year, with police finding 142 cases against them in 18 different areas since January 2023. Most of these bad activities happened in big cities. The gang members usually carry farm tools as weapons to scare people and take their money.
Police reports show that most gang members are young people between 18 and 25 years old, and many of them are doing crimes for the first time. The police have been working hard and have caught 89 gang members. They’ve also taken away 234 weapons from the gang in the last three months.
The Maharashtra government has made a special police team to catch these criminals. They’ve put cameras and police officers in 47 places where the gang usually causes trouble. Now, when someone calls for help, the police can reach there in just 8 minutes, which is much faster than before.
After Pawar shared the video, many people in different cities have made groups to help the police. These groups have 1,247 people who keep watch in their areas and tell the police if they see anything wrong. The government is also thinking about making stronger laws to punish gang members. If caught, the criminals might’ve to stay in jail for 7 years instead of 3 years.
The recent surge in gang activity has significantly impacted Pune sports events, with several tournaments being postponed due to safety concerns.
