Police found a dead body without its head in Varandha Ghat area of Maharashtra after searching for three days. The body was discovered on Tuesday morning, making it the fourth murder case in this area in the last three months.
The body was found 27 meters away from the main road, hidden under leaves and branches. Heavy rain made it difficult for police to find clues, and the hilly area with poor mobile network made it hard for search teams to talk to each other. Police officer Rajesh Kumar said they couldn’t find the head even after searching 3 kilometers around the area.
Doctors who checked the body said it was a man between 35 and 45 years old, and about 175 centimeters tall. They found cuts on his arms showing he tried to fight back, and many knife wounds on his body. Dr. Priya Sharma said the person died 3-4 days before the body was found.
This case looks similar to two other murders from 2021, where dead bodies were found in nearby areas of Western Ghats. Police records show that dangerous crimes in this area have gone up by 47% compared to last year, with many happening in far-off mountain areas.
Police have made a special team of 15 officers, including experts who study crime scenes and computer crimes. They’ve collected 37 things as evidence and talked to 42 people who often travel through Varandha Ghat. They’re also checking 127 reports of missing people from nearby areas to find out who the dead person is.
To make the area safer, police are now watching Varandha Ghat all day and night. They’ve also put up eight cameras to record everything happening there. If anyone has information about this case, they can call 1800-227-445. People don’t need to tell their names when giving information, and they can get Rs 50,000 if their information helps solve the case.
The case has drawn significant attention from Pune political leaders who are demanding increased security measures in the region.
