Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Delayed, Now Expected by March 2026

The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro project will now be ready in March 2026, instead of March 2025 as planned earlier. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has said that the delay is because of problems like getting land, getting permissions, and issues with contractors. This means people will have to wait one more year to use the metro.

Many IT workers who travel to Hinjewadi for work are very upset about this delay. The roads are in bad shape, and when it rains, water collects on the roads. This makes it hard for people to travel, and they spend a lot of time stuck in traffic, making them late for work.

The contractors have asked PMRDA for more time to finish the work. The PMRDA boss has said they’ll check the work properly and may fine contractors who don’t finish work on time. They want to make sure there are no more delays in the future.

Good news is that some work is going on at Maan Depot, where workers are testing two new metro trains that have just arrived. They plan to start test runs in September 2025 on an 11-kilometer route from Hinjewadi to District Court, which is an important step forward.

People living in these areas have asked PMRDA to start running metros on some parts of the route, especially between Hinjewadi, Baner, and Balewadi. They think this will help solve some traffic problems while the rest of the work continues on other parts of the metro line.

Building a metro isn’t easy – it needs many people to work together and follow many rules to make sure everything is safe. PMRDA is taking extra time to make sure the metro is built properly and safely. Even though people aren’t happy about waiting longer, PMRDA wants to give them a good and reliable metro service that will work well for many years to come.

The Pune local news will continue to provide updates on this important infrastructure project as developments occur.
