Two men from Bangladesh were caught by police in Pune’s Otur area after living there illegally for 15 years. The men, Tajmeer Moshtafa Ansari (29) and Mohammad Alimool Ghulam Ansari (28), worked as painters and made fake documents to hide their real identity.
The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) found that these men had made fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and driving licenses to look like Indian citizens. When police caught them, they also found their old Bangladeshi passports and expired visa papers. This showed that they’d come from Bangladesh’s Satkhira district.
Both men had been working as painters in Otur for many years. They mixed well with the local people and lived quietly, which is why no one found out they were from another country for so long. They earned money by painting houses and buildings in the area.
The police have filed a case against them under the Foreigners Act, which deals with people who live in India without proper permission. The police are now trying to find out if more people helped these men get fake documents or if there are other foreigners living illegally in the area.
This case shows how some people from other countries can live in India for many years without getting caught. They use fake documents to get jobs, rent houses, and live like normal Indian citizens. This is a big problem because the government doesn’t know who’s living in the country illegally.
The police say they need better ways to check people’s documents and find out who’s really an Indian citizen. This is especially important in small towns and villages where it’s harder to keep track of everyone. The police are now working harder to find more such people who are living in India without permission.
The incident has raised concerns among Pune business community about proper verification of workers’ identities in local enterprises.
