Husband Kills Wife, Takes His Own Life in Pune’s Manjari Area

A very sad event happened in Manjari, Pune, on Tuesday evening. Prakash Mane, who was 34 years old, killed his wife Sunita Mane (31 years) and then ended his own life at their home in Sunshine Apartments.

Prakash, who worked as a software engineer, was having many problems at work and was in a lot of debt (more than 15 lakh rupees). The police found that he was very worried about these problems.

Their neighbors told police that the husband and wife were fighting a lot for the past six months.

The good news is that their 8-year-old daughter is safe as she was staying with her grandparents when this happened. She’ll now live with her mother’s parents.

The Manjari Police have filed a case and are looking into the matter carefully. The doctors at Sassoon Hospital checked and found that Sunita died because she was strangled, while Prakash died after drinking something poisonous.

The police also found a letter written by Prakash, which was three pages long, where he wrote about his problems with money and feeling very sad.

This is the seventh such case in Pune this year where someone has died because of fighting at home. This is more than last year.

Police officer Rajesh Patil has asked people to call for help when they’ve problems. He said their helpline gets about 45 calls every day from people having family problems.

To help people, the local authorities have started free counseling and a helpline that works all day and night.

The society where they lived (Sunshine Apartments) will now have monthly meetings to teach people about mental health and how to stop fighting at home.

The incident adds to Pune crime news reports showing an increase in domestic violence cases this year.
