Bavdhan, a growing area in Pune, is facing big problems as more people have moved there since 2015. The number of people living there’s grown by 47%, but the basic needs like water, roads, and garbage collection aren’t good enough.
A survey done in the area shows that 73% of people are unhappy with basic services. People get water for only 4.5 hours every day, and electricity goes off very often. This makes daily life very difficult for families living in Bavdhan.
On March 15, about 2,500 people from Bavdhan walked together peacefully to show they aren’t happy. They asked for water supply all day, proper drains, and new parks in their area. The people want these things to make their life better.
The roads in Bavdhan are in bad shape. More than half of the roads don’t have proper lights, and many roads have big holes that need fixing. The garbage problem is also big – the area makes 12.5 tons of garbage every day but doesn’t have good ways to handle it.
Good news is that Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has made a plan to fix these problems. They’ll spend ₹245 crore to make things better. This plan includes building new water plants and making traffic smoother. They promise to fix most problems in the next three years.
The local leaders have said they’ll work fast to approve new projects. They want to finish 40% of the work by December 2024. To make sure the work is done properly, the people of Bavdhan have made a special group. This group will check the work every month and tell everyone about it. They’ll start checking the work from April 2024.
The Pune local news coverage of these developments has helped bring attention to the growing challenges faced by Bavdhan residents.
