After a careful investigation lasting three months, local police have decided to remove 17 people with serious criminal histories from Wagholi starting March 15, 2024. This decision was made because crime was increasing and people were worried about their safety in this growing area. These 17 individuals have been involved in 47 cases of crimes like extortion, assault, and property damage, which led to strict actions under the Maharashtra Police Act.

The actions of these criminals had a big effect on local businesses and residents. Police reports show that there was a 32% rise in cases of intimidation in the last six months. Most of these problems, about 85%, happened in busy commercial areas, often targeting new shops and real estate projects.

The orders to remove these individuals will last for two years, and they aren't allowed to return to Wagholi without special permission from the police. Senior Police Inspector Rajesh Kumar stated that these individuals must check in weekly at their new local police stations. The police will closely watch them using both old and new methods to ensure they follow the rules. If they break these rules, they'll be arrested and face more legal actions.

This decision by the police is supported by groups like the Wagholi Residents' Association and local business owners. Reports show that crime caused around ₹2.8 crore in losses for businesses last year, plus additional losses due to less activity and lower property values.

To help the community, the police have set up a special helpline (020-XXXXXXXX) that people can call if they see any rule-breaking. There will also be quick responses to any reports of violations.

The police will check every three months to see how well these measures are working, with the first review planned for June 2024. These efforts aim to bring back safety and trust in Wagholi.
