Honeybees Attack Tourists at Shivneri Fort
On October 12, 2023, a big group of honeybees attacked visitors at the famous Shivneri Fort in Pune, Maharashtra. The bees attacked 47 tourists when they went too close to a beehive near the fort’s walls at around 11:30 in the morning. Out of these, 23 people got hurt and needed quick medical help.
Among the hurt people, 16 had many bee stings and had to go to the hospital. This included 7 children between 8 and 14 years old. Doctors at Junnar Civil Hospital gave them medicine for bee stings. Three people who’d bad allergic reactions needed special care. Good news is that all the people are now back home and getting better.
The local wildlife officers are now moving the beehives to safer places where they won’t harm tourists. They’re working with bee experts to find all such dangerous beehives near the fort and move them carefully.
Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has made new safety rules. They’ve put special teams with safety clothes and medicines at important places in the fort. These teams are ready to help if bees attack again.
In the last five years, there have been more cases of wild animals and insects hurting people at old forts and monuments in Maharashtra. The tourism department is spending ₹2.5 crore to make 15 historical places safer for visitors.
The fort authorities are now making new rules for tourists and guides. These rules will help people enjoy the fort safely while also keeping the bees and other animals safe in their homes.
