A 19-year-old law student, Bhushan Domane, was found dead in his hostel room at Fergusson College on Tuesday morning. Bhushan, who came from Wardha district in Maharashtra, was studying in his first year at Navalmal Firodia Law College. The police found some empty medicine packets in his room, which makes them think he might’ve taken too many pills to end his life.
The police sent Bhushan’s body to Sassoon Hospital for doctors to check what exactly caused his death. His teachers noticed that in the last three months, he’d stopped coming to classes regularly. They also saw that he’d become very quiet and didn’t talk much with other students, which showed he might’ve been very sad or troubled.
The police are trying to find out more about what happened. They’re talking to other students who lived in the hostel and looking at Bhushan’s books, phone, and other things. They’ve collected 23 different items from his room that might help them understand why this happened.
The college Principal was very sad to hear this news. He said Bhushan was a very good student who got more than 85% marks in his first semester. The college has now decided to check how they can help students who feel stressed or sad, and they’ll start new ways to help students from the next term.
This is the third time this year that a student has died by suicide in Maharashtra’s colleges. This shows that many students feel a lot of pressure while studying, especially in tough courses like law where there’s a lot of competition and work to do.
The college, which has 1,200 students, has said they’ll now have more counselors (people who help students with their problems) and start new programs to help students handle their stress better. They want to make sure that students who feel troubled can easily get help when they need it.
The incident has prompted local authorities to conduct a thorough review of Pune crime statistics related to student suicides in educational institutions.
