A very sad incident happened in Chopda, Maharashtra, where a father shot and killed his own daughter during her pre-wedding ceremony because he didn’t like her choice of husband. The daughter, Trupti, who was 24 years old, had studied to become a doctor (MBBS).
The father, Kiran Mangle, who used to work as a sub-inspector in CRPF (police force), came without invitation to his daughter’s haldi ceremony. He was very angry because Trupti was going to marry Avinash Wagh, who’d only studied till 12th class and earned ₹12,000 per month. When he started shooting, he also hurt Avinash badly.
The people at the ceremony quickly caught Mangle and beat him up to stop him from causing more harm. He got hurt in the fight and is now in the hospital with police watching over him. The police have filed serious cases against him for murder and trying to kill Avinash.
This sad event shows how some parents in India still can’t accept their children’s marriage choices, especially when there’s a big difference in education between the bride and groom. Trupti was a well-educated doctor, while Avinash had basic education, which made her father very upset.
The case has made many doctors and police officers very sad and worried. They can’t believe that a father, who was himself a police officer, could do such a terrible thing to his own daughter just because she wanted to marry someone of her choice.
The incident has made many people talk about how families need help when they face such problems. It also shows that we need to change how people think about marriage in our society. Many are saying that parents should support their children’s choices and not take such extreme steps that destroy families forever.
The tragic incident has been added to Pune crime news records as one of the most shocking cases of family violence in Maharashtra.
