A big power cut hit Pune city on Tuesday morning, leaving around 20 lakh people without electricity. The problem started at 6:45 AM when a big machine called a transformer stopped working at the Bhosari power station. This caused electricity to stop in many parts of the city, affecting homes, shops, and factories.
The Maharashtra State Electricity company (MSEDCL) workers found that the problem was in the main power station. They quickly sent teams to fix it and made sure that important places like hospitals and traffic lights had backup power. They used special generators to keep these places running.
The power cut was very bad for Pune’s factories and companies. Many factories in Pimpri-Chinchwad had to stop working completely. Big IT companies in Hinjewadi used diesel generators to keep their computers running. The Pune Industrial Association said that businesses lost about 125 crore rupees because of this power cut.
To help people during this problem, the Pune Municipal Corporation sent 245 workers to manage traffic at busy roads where signals weren’t working. Water supply was also affected in some areas because the water pumps couldn’t work without electricity. The electricity company promised to spend 450 crore rupees to make the power system better.
Good news came at 2:15 PM when electricity returned to most areas. By 4:30 PM, everyone had power back in their homes and offices. The electricity company formed a special team to find out exactly why the transformer stopped working. They’ll write a report about it in 14 days.
The electricity company is now planning to install new and better equipment to stop such problems in the future. They’re working on a special project called ‘smart grid’ which will help them spot problems quickly and fix them faster. They want to finish this project by the end of this year.
The latest local news indicates that Pune authorities are actively collecting and monitoring updates about the city’s infrastructure challenges.
