Pune is starting a new affordable housing plan to help families who need homes. This plan, which costs Rs. 2,500 crores, began in January 2024. The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) wants to build 12,500 homes for middle and lower-income families in five important areas of Pune. They’ll use 250 acres of land that isn’t being used much right now to create modern housing.
The homes will have different types. For example, a small 1BHK house will start at Rs. 15 lakh, and a 2BHK house will start at Rs. 25 lakh. This is much cheaper than what houses usually cost in Pune. Families who earn less than Rs. 6 lakh a year can get a 25% discount on the prices, making it easier for them to buy their first home. People can apply online, and a lottery will decide who gets the homes in March 2024.
The new housing will have good facilities like 24/7 water supply, solar power for common areas, and parking spaces. There will also be community centers, healthcare facilities, and schools nearby. The first set of homes, which has 4,000 units, will be ready by April 2024 in Hinjewadi and Wagholi.
This project supports the government’s “Housing for All” goal. It will be energy-efficient, saving 40% more energy than regular homes. MHADA is working with banks to offer home loans with low-interest rates starting at 6.7% per year.
The housing project will also create about 15,000 jobs during building. Local suppliers will provide most of the materials needed, which will help the local economy. MHADA has set up a system to help people with any problems and a mobile app for updates on construction.
People can start applying for these homes on February 15, 2024. More details about who can apply and what documents are needed will be available on MHADA’s website. They expect to finish all the homes by December 2026, with careful planning to make sure everything is done well.
