A driver named Janardan Hambardikar has been charged with murder and attempted murder after a terrible fire in Pune's Hinjawadi area. This fire happened while he was driving a Tempo Traveller and took the lives of four people and injured five more.
Police say that Hambardikar planned this fire ahead of time. They found evidence showing that he put flammable materials like benzene and rags in his vehicle about a day before the fire. He used a matchstick to start the fire while he was driving with passengers, which shows he meant to do this.
The reason for this awful act seems to be problems at work. Hambardikar was upset because he hadn't received his Diwali salary and felt mistreated by his coworkers. Police believe these feelings led him to start the fire.
The fire was even more dangerous because the emergency exit door on the Tempo Traveller didn't work properly. This made it hard for people to escape, causing more deaths than would have happened if they could get out quickly.
Hambardikar got some minor injuries himself and is currently in the hospital getting treatment. He hasn't been arrested yet, but charges have been filed against him according to Indian law.
This tragic event has led to a bigger investigation into safety rules for vehicles that carry passengers. Authorities are looking at how to improve safety measures, especially for emergency exits and how dangerous materials are stored in vehicles.
