PMPML, Pune’s main bus service, will hire 350 new bus conductors on contract basis starting from January 15, 2024. This decision comes as the company is adding more buses to serve more passengers in the city.
The company will hire these conductors in three steps – 120 conductors in January, 130 in February, and 100 in March. Anyone who’s passed 10th class and has a conductor’s license can apply for these jobs.
PMPML is growing bigger with 150 new electric buses and 100 CNG buses being added to its current fleet of 2,100 buses. More people are now traveling by PMPML buses, with about 9 lakh passengers using the service daily on 371 different routes.
The new conductors will get Rs. 18,000 as monthly salary, plus extra money for good work. They’ll first get a one-year contract, which can be extended if they work well. PMPML has kept Rs. 7.2 crore for hiring these new conductors.
Right now, PMPML has fewer conductors than it needs. It has about 2 conductors for each bus, but it needs at least 3 conductors per bus to run smoothly. That’s why they’re hiring more people.
The company is also making its bus service better by adding new systems like automatic ticket machines and GPS tracking in buses. These changes will help reduce waiting time for passengers and make the bus service more reliable for everyone in Pune.
The latest Pune business updates indicate growing transportation infrastructure investments across the city’s public transit sector.
