The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has started strict action against people who are making illegal housing plots in 800 villages. They’re checking all lands carefully to find out which plots are made without proper permission.
In their first check, PMRDA found 237 illegal plots, and they’ve already taken action on 42% of these cases. They’re giving big fines from ₹50,000 to ₹10 lakhs to people who break the rules, and in some cases, they’re even breaking down illegal buildings.
A special team of 45 officers has checked more than 1,200 places since January 2023. They’ve solved 89 cases where people weren’t following the rules. These officers work hard to make sure no one breaks the land rules.
The problem is very big – about 4,200 hectares of farming land has been affected by illegal plotting. Most of these illegal plots (65%) are on farming land, some (23%) are in areas where we should protect nature, and the rest (12%) break city planning rules.
PMRDA has collected ₹15.6 crore in fines and stopped illegal land deals worth ₹342 crore. They’ve also saved 1,845 hectares of farming land from being used wrongly.
To catch people breaking rules quickly, PMRDA is now using modern technology like satellite pictures and drones. They can now find out if someone is breaking rules within 48 hours. They’re also making a new computer system to keep track of land records better.
The Pune crime news updates show this crackdown is part of a larger effort to maintain law and order in the region.
