Pune city is facing big problems with dog poop on its streets and walking paths. The city has more than 100,000 pet dogs, but the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is finding it hard to make sure owners clean up after their pets. Even though they’ve made rules and put up some bins, many people are still not following them.
Most dog owners in Pune haven’t registered their pets with the PMC. Only a few thousand dogs have proper licenses. This makes it very difficult for the PMC workers to know which dogs belong to whom and to catch people who don’t clean up after their pets.
The PMC can fine people between ₹500 to ₹1,000 if they don’t pick up their dog’s poop, but this rule isn’t working well. In the last four months, only 14 people were fined. The workers who check for these problems only catch 4-5 people breaking rules each day, which is very less compared to how many dogs are there in the city.
Because of this poor checking, many streets and footpaths in Pune are becoming dirty with dog waste. Many people living in the city are complaining about this problem. They’re angry that the PMC isn’t doing enough to keep the streets clean and make pet owners follow the rules.
The main problem is that the PMC’s system isn’t working properly. They’ve good rules, but they’re not able to make people follow them. Most pet owners don’t even register their dogs with the PMC, which shows that many people don’t care about following the city’s rules.
People in Pune are very upset about the dirty streets and want the PMC to do something quickly. They want better checking of rules and proper cleaning of public places. Right now, the PMC isn’t doing enough to solve these problems, and this is making it hard to keep the city clean and make sure pet owners are responsible.
