On Tuesday evening, a big storm hit the western coast of India. Because of this, around 284 passengers got stuck at Goa International Airport. They were waiting for their IndiGo flight 6E-427 to Mumbai, which had a technical problem. What started as a 4-hour delay turned into spending the night at the airport.
The trouble began at 6:45 PM local time. This is just one of many problems people have faced while traveling in India lately. Bad weather and technical issues have led to a 15% increase in canceled flights this month compared to last.
Airport workers helped find hotels for 197 passengers, while 87 others chose to make their own plans. The airline gave everyone meal vouchers worth Rs. 750 and arranged free shuttles to nearby hotels because they’d to follow rules for long delays.
Fly91 Airlines shared that their engineering team was fixing a sensor problem in the plane. Rajesh Mehta, a spokesperson for the airline, said they’d to check everything carefully to keep passengers safe.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), delays due to weather have increased by 23% this monsoon season. This has affected about 12,000 passengers since June 1st.
The flight finally took off at 10:15 AM the next day. The airline also gave flight vouchers worth Rs. 2,500 to those who were delayed more than 12 hours.
The airport is now back to normal, and officials are looking at ways to improve how they handle weather problems in the future.
The incident highlights ongoing changes in Pune’s transportation landscape as the city works to improve its aviation connectivity.
