Former manager Rajesh Kapoor of Pune’s Tandoor Palace Restaurant has been caught stealing money from the restaurant. He took around ₹47.2 lakhs from January 2022 to March 2023 by playing tricks with the restaurant’s payment system and daily sales records.

The restaurant found something wrong when they checked their money records. They saw that the money shown in reports was different from what was actually in the bank. Kapoor was clever – he changed the computer system’s reports and sent money to his own bank accounts.

The Pune police’s special team found that Kapoor made fake payment accounts. He used these accounts to take away 18% of the daily payments made by customers. Because the restaurant was very busy and handled lots of money every day (about ₹2.8 lakhs), no one noticed the stealing for a long time.

The police found 127 different times when Kapoor took money, stealing amounts between ₹12,000 and ₹89,000. He usually did this during busy dinner times when everyone was occupied with customers.

After this case, many restaurants in Pune are now being more careful with their payment systems. They’re using new safety steps like special passwords and daily money checking reports that go straight to the restaurant owners.

Kapoor, who worked at the restaurant for seven years, is now in trouble with the law. He might go to jail for seven years. The restaurant is trying to get its money back and is now using outside people to check their accounts regularly. Police say other restaurants should be careful too, as three other places in Pune have faced similar problems.

This incident has become one of Pune’s latest updates regarding financial fraud in the local restaurant industry.
