Transport unions in Pune are protesting against the high costs of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs). Around 25 lakh vehicles in the city need to follow this new rule. The small transport operators are worried because they're already facing high fuel prices and other costs.

One big issue is that HSRP prices in Maharashtra are much higher than in nearby states like Goa and Gujarat. This makes it harder for transport businesses in Pune. The Pune District Bus and Car Owners Association is asking the government to change the rules so that everyone can afford the HSRPs.

Right now, only 25,000 out of 1.12 lakh applications have been completed. This shows that many vehicle owners find the costs too high. In Maharashtra, almost 2 crore vehicles need to get the new security plates, which is a huge number.

The state transport commissioner has listened to these concerns and might extend the deadline set for April 30. This change could help because many people are struggling to meet the original date. The commissioner understands that the rules need to be easier for everyone to follow.

The protests are getting a lot of support from different transport groups. They believe the government should help change the prices of HSRPs. The Pune District Bus and Car Owners Association is working hard to make sure that transport operators are heard.

As the deadline gets closer, it's clear that both security needs and financial challenges must be balanced. The government may need to adjust the rules and prices to help vehicle owners while still keeping everyone safe with the new security plates.
