Pune is having a tough time with the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) program. As of April 9, only 87,396 out of 2,528,589 vehicles have received their plates. This means just 3.5% have been completed. Many people are facing long waits and problems when they go to get their plates installed.
Residents have shared that they booked their appointments early, some even in February, but many have faced last-minute cancellations. They say they don’t get good updates from the service providers, which is making people very upset. Currently, only 341,589 appointments have been made, which shows there’s a big difference between the number of scheduled installations and the total vehicles that need them.
There is also a worry because the deadline for getting these plates is June 30. This date is important for vehicles registered before April 2019. If things keep going at this slow pace, many vehicle owners mightn’t get their plates in time, which could lead to problems for them. At this rate, it could take years to fit all the eligible vehicles.
People living in rural areas are having even more trouble. There aren’t enough fitment centers close to them, making it harder to get their installations done. They’ve to travel far and sometimes try many times just to get an appointment.
Communication between service providers and vehicle owners is also a big issue. There have been cases where teams leave without finishing their work because of misunderstandings about the vehicles or what’s needed. This makes the whole process slower and adds to the number of pending installations.
The numbers show that there needs to be a better system and more places to get the plates installed. Many people want to follow the HSRP rules, but right now, it seems hard for everyone in Pune to get their plates on time, especially those in rural areas who’ve extra challenges.
