The Sinhagad Road Flyover was opened on September 15, 2023, by Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Kumar. This flyover is very important for the city's roads and helps many people every day. It's 2.1 kilometers long and cost Rs. 157 crore to build. It connects the busy Sinhagad Road junction to the growing Warje area, helping to reduce traffic jams.
With the new flyover, people will save about 25 minutes of travel time during busy hours. It can handle 45,000 vehicles each day and is expected to reduce traffic by 60% in the area. The flyover has six lanes and includes safety features like bright LED lights, cameras to watch the road, and systems to help in emergencies.
Construction started in January 2021 and used strong materials to make sure it lasts a long time. Workers faced challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic but finished the project three months earlier than planned. They also made sure to check the quality of the work regularly.
The flyover is designed to be friendly to the environment. It has noise barriers, a system to collect rainwater, and 1,200 trees planted around it. The design also keeps it safe during earthquakes.
This flyover is just the first part of a bigger plan to improve the city's transport system. The next phase will include building roads for services, walkways for people, and bike tracks, which should be ready by March 2024.
Since the construction started, the area has seen property values go up by 15%. Local shops are doing better, and new businesses are coming. The city expects that this flyover will bring in Rs. 500 crore of investment in the next five years.
