Traffic Chaos: Woman Questions Police at Mundhwa Chowk
A video has become very popular on social media where a woman is seen talking angrily to traffic police at Mundhwa Chowk in Pune. People who travel through this road daily face long delays of about 45-60 minutes during morning time, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
The woman in the video, Priya Sharma, who lives nearby, was upset because there were only two traffic police officers managing such a big road crossing. The video has been watched by more than 2.5 lakh people in just two days.
Studies show that the number of vehicles passing through Mundhwa Chowk has grown a lot since 2021. Now, about 12,500 vehicles pass through this crossing every morning. Most people use this road to go to IT offices in Magarpatta and Kharadi areas.
The road crossing was made in 2015 for fewer vehicles, but now many more vehicles use it daily. This is causing big traffic jams and making people very unhappy.
Good news is that Pune Municipal Corporation has said they’ll fix this problem. They’ll put up smart traffic lights and cameras by December 2023. They’ll spend ₹4.2 crores on this project.
After this incident, the police have made a special office where people can tell their traffic problems. They found that many complaints come from Mundhwa Chowk area. Now, they’re trying to find better ways to manage traffic in the whole city.
The evolving transportation landscape in Pune continues to present new challenges as the city expands.
