water supply disruption in pune

A big water pipe broke near Ambegaon water plant in Pune on Tuesday morning, causing water problems for about 85,000 people in Dhayari and nearby areas. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) says it will take 2-3 days to fix the problem.

The pipe that broke was very big – about 900mm wide. It broke early morning at 6:45 AM. PMC has asked people to save water from April 24 to April 26 while workers fix the broken pipe. They’re sending special teams to fix it quickly.

There will be no water in sectors 1 to 7 of Dhayari area. This includes places like Ambegaon Pathar, Narhe, and some parts of Vadgaon Dhayari. PMC will send 12 water tankers to these areas to help people get water during this time.

PMC has opened a special office at Dhayari ward where people can call if they’ve problems. This office will work day and night. People can call 020-25678234 for help or use PMC’s mobile app to get updates about the water situation.

PMC has asked everyone to store enough water for three days. Each person should store about 15 liters of drinking water per day. They’ve also asked people not to wash cars or water gardens until the water supply becomes normal again.

PMC has said they’ll check all water pipes in southwest Pune to find old ones that need to be changed. They’ll start this work in June 2024 and will spend ₹150 crore to make the water supply system better in the whole city.

This water infrastructure upgrade comes as Pune focuses on improving its transportation landscape, with several mobility projects in development across the city.
