While waiting for a bus to her hometown at Pune's Swargate depot, a 26-year-old woman was sexually assaulted inside a stationary Shivshahi bus around 5am on Wednesday. The victim, who was planning to travel to Phaltan, approximately 100 kilometers from Pune, was approached by the suspect who instructed her to board the parked bus.

The suspect, identified as Dattatray Ramdas Gade, followed the woman into the vehicle at the state transport corporation facility and proceeded to assault her. Following the incident, the victim immediately reported the crime to local authorities, leading to a swift police investigation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Smartana Patil confirmed the details of the assault and announced that eight police teams have been formed to locate the suspect. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the bus depot to trace Gade's movements before and after the incident.

The assault has sparked concerns about safety measures at public transport facilities across the region. Local authorities are facing increased pressure to enhance security protocols, particularly during early morning hours when fewer people are present at transport hubs.

The incident has also reignited discussions about the broader issue of sexual violence against women in public spaces. Community leaders and activists are calling for more extensive safety measures, including increased police presence, better lighting, and regular security patrols at bus depots.

Law enforcement officials have emphasized the importance of the victim's prompt reporting, which has aided in identifying the suspect and initiating immediate investigation procedures. Support systems for sexual assault victims have been activated to provide necessary assistance and counseling services.

The case has highlighted the urgent need for improved security infrastructure at transportation facilities and increased public awareness about personal safety. Local authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, while working to implement additional safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
