Camp, officially Pune Cantonment, is the old British-era quarter east of the river around MG Road and East Street. It has the citys longest running bakeries, Irani cafes and dessert parlours, some of them over eighty years old, alongside the MG Road shopping stretch. It is one of the best areas in Pune for old-school sweets and ice cream.
Ice Cream in Camp
A fairy tale themed gelato parlour in Aurora Towers on MG Road, built around sundaes and waffles. The decor is as much the point as the gelato, which makes it a favourite with families and younger groups.
Apsara is a Mumbai born ice cream name with a strong following in Pune, and the MG Road counter in Camp is its best known one here. Fruit flavours and kulfi are what regulars order.
A Pune based parlour on Moledina Road in Camp, running since 1999 and carrying more than thirty five flavours. Tiramisu and roasted almond are the two that regulars keep coming back for.
An MG Road institution more than eighty years old, Pasteur is a bakery first and a dessert counter second. The classic softies and sundaes are what people queue for, and the prices have stayed modest.

The SGS Mall outlet in Camp, and the main chain pizza option in the old city. Chilli cheese garlic bread, potato wedges and the choco volcano are the sides people add. Around Rs.350 for two.
Twelve different pizza bases to choose from, and the whole operation runs on a simple gas grill rather than an oven, turning out around two hundred pizzas a day. The white sauce pasta is the single most recommended item. Jain food is available. Over two thousand Google reviews.
The Camp outlet inside SGS Mall, which is the main momo option in this part of the old city. Steamed, pan fried and tandoor versions are all here, plus the chocolate momos and the momo burger.
Sits in the same SGS Mall as Wow Momo, and the cheese burst momo is the reason to pick this one. The BBQ chicken baos are the other item that no local Camp counter makes.
