About the Mandir
One of the top tourist spots of Maharashtra, Pune, is a city of many wonders where modernization flourishes with tranquility and calmness. The newly added attraction to the list of temples is the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, built by the BAPS Shree Swaminarayan Sanstha worldwide.
This remarkably beautiful temple dedicated to Shree Swaminarayan was completed and inaugurated in February 2017 after only 24 months of construction. The lush green area surrounding the temple invokes peace of mind for all who come to offer their obeisance. The clean ambiance and speckless sandstone premises attract admirers from across the country. The evenings here are even more beautiful, with the glorious temple looking like a beautiful palace decorated with lights in the form of diyas.
Architecture
The Mandir showcases traditional Nagara-style architecture, designed as Southern Shilpa Shaili by Sompura artisans. Key architectural highlights:
- Dimensions: 184.6 feet Long × 181.6 feet Wide × 74.6 feet High
- Total Area: 33,523.36 square feet
- Construction: Fully stone carved without any steel
- Materials: Indian pink sandstone and red stone from Rajasthan
- Samrans: 23 Samrans including 7 giant ones
- Torans: 109 beautiful torans
- Pillars: 140 intricately carved pillars
- Sculptures: 10,269 carved sculptures and deities representing the heritage of Maharashtra and India
The detailed carvings were meticulously hand-crafted in Rajasthan and assembled like a giant 3-D puzzle. The inner sanctum houses sacred idols of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, Gunatitanand Swami, BAPS gurus, and various other deities.

- Snack Shop: Explore the food shop near the temple serving the best vegetarian Jain food at affordable rates. Perfectly clean and hygienic.
- Gift Shop: A lovely gift shop within the temple premises sells books, CDs, and DVDs of bhajan and kirtans, plus books on Jain and Hindu culture.
- Abhishek Mandap: A separate ritual area to offer special prayers, believed to fulfill wishes when done with faith and devotion.
- Cultural Activities: Attend aarti, discourses, and explore exhibitions on Indian spirituality and heritage.
Visitor Guidelines
- Entry: Free for all. Donations are welcome and tax deductible.
- Dress Code: Casual attire. No sleeveless tops, shorts, or skirts shorter than knee length. Sarongs available on request.
- Seating: Separate designated areas for men and women during Aarti ceremony.
- Footwear: Remove footwear before entering. Shoe racks provided.
- Photography: Mobile phones with cameras must not be used inside the Mandir or Haveli.
- Luggage: Large baggage not allowed. Small handbags permitted.
- Food & Drinks: Not allowed inside. Discard chewing gum before entering.
- Prohibited: Smoking, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, pets, and firearms.
- Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs and elevator access provided on request.
- Children: All ages welcome. Visitors 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
- Parking: Free parking available.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is from September to February when the weather is pleasant. The peak visiting season is August to September. Plan your visit to attend the Sandhya Aarti (7:00 pm) – the gorgeous lighting around the premises during evening is a treat to the eyes and soul.

The temple is located on National Highway 48 (Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway), approximately 14 km from Pune Junction and 18 km from central Pune.
- By Air: Pune International Airport is about 10 km from the city center.
- By Rail: Pune Junction is well connected to major Indian cities.
- By Road: Approximately 180 km from Mumbai, accessible via the expressway through Katraj.
